One Room Challenge: Week 1
So here we are taking on the Better Homes & Gardens One Room Challenge! I was so on the fence about doing it but landed on a yes when I thought it would give me the push I needed to finish Granger’s room before the next little Struck baby makes its arrival. I’m sure some of you are curious why we didn’t opt to do the nursery first but we felt like this would be the best gift for G as he transitioned through becoming a brother, a huge move, and starting kindergarten all in the next few months. This is a season he will remember and it was important to me that we do something special for him. Plus, there is a good chance this baby will come before we can move and if that is the case, I don’t want to have an empty nursery. Maybe October’s ORC will line up with the timing on that!?
Okay so when I asked my Client (aka 4.5 yo son) what he wanted for his room he was quick and certain that he wanted a Star Wars themed room. Any of you peeps that know me know that I am not overly theme-y and I do not like/do anything too kiddie. I like things that feel mature and like they will age with the child as they grow. That means applying elements/themes from the series in a way that doesn’t feel overt or like we bought a bed set and called it good. How do we do this? First we check out the vibes we like from the movie and start to play with color schemes.
So the images above had a lot of warm tones with pops of yellow/orange. The images below have a cooler vibe. We landed somewhere in the middle of both color schemes. All the walls are freshly painted BM- Edgecomb Gray so I didn’t want to repaint the entire room. We definitely wanted to draw from the industrial grungy vibes throughout all the images.
We built the Pinterest board around these inpsiration images and you can take a look at the board below! And, just to help give you a layout of the space, I drafted the footprint and proposed layout below. The current space is up on my IG Stories under ORC. Check it out and follow along!
Next week we will be showing what we actually selected and put together and go over how G feels about it. Check out more room transformations at: http://www.oneroomchallenge.com/orc-blog/
